Production has officially begun on The Housemaid, a film adaptation of Freida McFadden's bestselling thriller, with Sydney Sweeney in the leading role. The movie will see Sweeney starring as Millie Calloway, a young woman who takes a seemingly straightforward housekeeping job with the Winchester Family, only to unravel dark secrets within the home. The novel gained massive popularity due to its layered psychological drama, making it a respectable candidate for a film adaptation.

The announcement was shared via Instagram under the film's official account, @housemaidmovie. The cast, which includes Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, director Paul Feig, and Michele Morrone, used a popular BookTok review/audio from user @cedelove_, whose review of the novel helped catapult the novel to a viral success, with the cast seen on set reading the original novel instead of the script.
